Partying At “The Dome”
the weekend was interesting. i saw a lot of people i was use to seeing every saturday night at college. i also saw a few people i wanted to avoid, but failed miserably at. i tried to just sit there and ignore certain creepers, but apparently i had an inviting look on my face that said “come closer, and put your arm around me.”
the best thing about alumni weekend was experiencing “the dome.” what a fitting name for an off-campus house, because as dane cook says, ”if you come there you know what the fuck’s up.” the named dome room is actually the dj booth, the real magical room is the one behind that. it was like being at a rave: fog machine on overload, lasers, black lights, and loud music. but the dance floor didn’t really pick up till “i’m on a boat” came on…
shortly after a guy approaches mia madison, “will you dance with my friend he has down syndrome?” that’s when she got scared, because he was actually something worse: a blacked out lacrosse player. why weren’t all college parties like this?

Hell to Heaven
i just had the best weekend i’ve had in a while, but it didn’t start off that way. i was on the bus ride from hell. i already had reservations about the bus ride from past experience, but i put those emotions aside when i saw how cheap it was.
my friend, the prance kitten, and i stood in line for the bus for a good 30 minutes, after 25 minutes of waiting we decided we should get some food for the ride. then right as she was looking at our options, the bus started boarding…no food for us. normally i can last 4 hours without food, but i didn’t eat anything since lunch which was 5 hours before. then we sat in seats with zero leg room. my legs aren’t long, but they need space to be free. and if that wasn’t enough the heat was easily set to 90 degrees. we were sitting in pools of our own sweat…it wasn’t pretty.
we decided our only options was to take off all the clothes we could while still looki being covered up and just keep talking to keep food off our minds. it was torture to see the people in front of us pull out sandwiches followed by numerous snacks. if i had an escape i would have taken something and ran, but i was stuck. eventually we got there and ordered indian food, streched our legs, and got really cold in the 10 degree weather…it was great.
i think god felt bad, and decided to help me out the next day. prance kitten and i went to the gym for a dance class. i spotted my first nyc celeb, david duchovny…appartently the dance teacher has been trying to get him to take the class for weeks. i was already excited for the dance class for just being dance, but it got better when i heard the first notes….kill the lights. if dancing to britney wasn’t good enough the 80 year old woman next to me, made me love it even more. she goes 3 times a week, and really knew how to break it down.
great memories were made, and those were just the first 24 hours.

Cha Cha Cha
i was talking to my friend’s dad when he asked what my hobbies are outside of cooking. then i realized the things i use to enjoy ie dancing, singing, intramural aren’t current extracircular activites. so when i was talking to my friend B she mentioned she wanted to take ball room dancing lessons and has been working on trying to convince a boy to take them with her for a while. i knew this was a project i had to start on right away if i would ever find someone. because in my mind, what straight guy would willingly take dance lessons? maybe if it was hip hop i’d have a chance.
it was then when i was talking to the doctor when he happened to mention salsa dancing. there it was…my opportunity. i had to promise him that it would be more salsa and cha cha rather than fox trot and waltzing….but he’s in. this might possibly be the best thing to happen post college.

Superstah
i love britney and i think everyone knows that by now. tonight there was a special on mtv which highlighted her best videos with commentary by some of her fans. during the show i was talking to ms mia madison. it was then when we realized how many things in our lives we did because of britney.
- both wanted her red abercrombie pants from baby one more time video
-we put walkmen on our waistbans and pretended they were mic sets and sang brit songs
-watched crossroads
-wanted fedoras
-laid on the floor and re-enacted her scene when she’s wearing all white in the oops video
-still watch the diane sawyer interview and cry everytime she talks about justin (and of course wishing they’ll get back together)
-and of course try to recreate britney costumes
britney: for the record will air november 30th at 10pm on mtv…be there
p.s. sophia’s ringtone for her brother is “womanizer”….hilarious!

Secrets
i’ve read many great books in my life (everyone worth knowing, something borrowed, summer sisters), but the greatest book of all is my journal. i’ve been writing for the past 6 years. i write every day, whether there is something exciting, depressing, or not. it contains some of the most personal emotions and thoughts that i will never share with anyone (it will be written in my will for them to be destroyed after i pass). my journal, not to be confused with a diary which has a lock and key, is my favorite book. i use it to document my life and the way i feel at those times. yes, it’s predictable, seeing as i wrote it and all, but it tells some of the best stories. most of these stories i forget with time, but as i read it they all come back to life. it’s like being back in that state of mind and circumstances. although i rarley give my journal to anyone to read i’ve highlighted some lines for your enjoyment (i’ll even use exact text).
“when we were out a random guy leaned in and told me ‘you look a lot like my future ex-wife’ ok creepy much?”
“i feel like he’s always gonna be in my life in one form or another and will always break my heart whether he means to or not…great!”
“my mom called today to make sure i was still breathing…how thoughtful”
“i felt better right away cause he looked me up and down and complimented my top”
“he imed me and said ‘hey princess’…at least he has my name right”
“it was probably a mass text but i couldn’t resist the urge and responded”
“i found ‘wish upon a star’ on youtube…what a day!”
“today i couldn’t think of anything besides dance”
“he told me to dress in a batman uniform to win any guy’s attention”
“since it’s friday we all wore dresses”
“i think i have a dylan”
obviously i can’t give away any of the really good stories. i wanted to write two other lines, but i had to protect the privacy of one of my friends and i couldn’t boost the ego of another blogger, who’s ego is already pretty big.

Total Opposites
I thought I was done with this whole blog scene, but I can’t hold this in any longer. Yesterday I found out who one of my roommates will be in Nebraska. I immediately told my cousin who will also be a roommate since she was at work….and she started her research right aka facebook. And this is what she found:
A picture of her glady holding a dead deer with blood flowing out of its mouth. Who put’s pictures like that on facebook? It’s one thing to be a hunter, that I deal with as I have many in my family, but this is a whole nother level. I couldn’t freak out fast enough. My cousin kept investigating (since she friended her….this will be a theme of everyone we meet in Nebraska) and I didn’tand made a note of her interests: camping, fishing, boating, (and most obviously) hunting…I don’t think we could be more opposite.
We sent the picture to family and friends. The exact I got from my most recent roommate at PC was ”FUCK.” I guess she just said what we were all thinking.
Eventually I had to leave for work and allowed my mind to think of other things for the next few hours until this morning when my mom asked about her. She told me my aunt told her about her name, where she’s from, etc. , but all I kept saying was “yeah, but do you know?”…so I showed her. My mom tried to stay reasonable, and asked what other pictures of her looked like. But since I’m the way I am (not extremely friendly or stalkerish) I did not friend her on facebook, so I all I could go by was the little picture by her name in a search. In which everything seems like something I can deal with.
Then she tried to play if off differently, “what if she was your roommate at PC?” But let’s be real, girls like that don’t go to PC or if they do I’ve never knew because they keep it a secret because they know it’s not socially acceptable. And even my mom who’s been around hunting her entire life kept saying the same thing “but why would she put that picture on facebook?”….my point exactly. But the best response of the day was from DC Hero: ” I think you’re going to learn a lot from living out there.”
As a contrast the first picture in my profile is me in a dress with all my friends as we are ready to go to a school function. She probably would be freaking out if she saw my profile too…my interests include fashion, dancing, and britney.

Time To Graduate
Last week the senior class had three events that led up to yesterday’s graduation.
The first night was at a club in providence called the complex. The club consists of 4 rooms, that all play different types of music. Although I wasn’t there to witness it, the final few songs were a melody of boy band hits from the 90s, a perfect ending to a perfect evening. I just have one tip for you, if you don’t know how to dance…no big deal, not everyone is JT….but don’t step on your partner’s feet!
The second day was at the casino, Twin River. I saw a comic who made fun of everyone, saying we’ll all be unemployed in a week. We also saw a hypnotist, but I that’s not real, so there’s no reason to dwell on it. The night’s finale was a concert by the grammy awarding winning artist: Coolio. Other than gangstas paradise, the concert was so horrible that it was humorous. One song was called “I like girls”…it was a little repetitive and went a little something like this: “I like girls, I like girls, oooo weeee I like girls.” And at the end of the concert he plugged his cooking show, Cookin’ with Coolio…aka the gansta gourmet. He also has a new cd coming out called “Steal Hear.” But the best was when he announced his age, 44! Oh and he came back to campus and partied with some students….seems reasonable huh?
The last night was a formal up in Boston at the Park Plaza. The dj was horrible and totally killed the mood with songs like the electric slide and the chicken dance. But we got dressed up and looked cute one last time.
The saddest part was knowing that once it was over, it was time to graduate; and that’s what happened yesterday. It wasn’t depressing to get my diploma, it was just sad to think that I will never see most of those people ever again, most of which is fine, but there’s those others. The other people that you’re not quite good enough friends with to go see, but good enough that you want to. It amazing to think how many wonderful people I was able to meet over the four years at college. I would hate for that to go to waste.
death ain’t nothing but a heartbeat away,
i’m living life, do or die, what can I say
i’m 23 now, but will I live to see 24
the way things are going I don’t know

College Review: Biggest Obsession
During college I maintained the Britney obsession that started in high school, but once my sophomore year came around my attention was turned to Ashlee Simpson.
Mia Madison and I would play that CD over and over again, making our other roommate extremely annoyed. We also watched the Ashlee Simpson show every week. At the time I wasn’t sure where the obsession came from; she wasn’t a good singer and she didn’t have dance skills. But now I realize that she is an amazing song writer. It was her lyrics that spoke to me:
I’ve been waiting all my life
To finally find you
Just so I can push you away
And when you’re crawling over broken glass to get to me
That’s when I’ll let you stay
Oh how true…It’s amazing how things can change so fast, yet how they stay the same.

Spring 2008 Dance Club Show
I have been so busy the past few weeks due my dance show that took place this past weekend. We were having last minute rehersals up until the show, but I must say all the hard work payed off. I was in two hip hop performances and modern dance.
The first hip hop was a mix of Kanye’s “Workout Plan,” Missy’s “I’m Really Hot,” and Unk’s “Walk It Out.” The moves were pretty cool, there was even a push-up pyramid. But by far the best part about it were the costumes. We were told to wear 80s work out wear with tons of bright colors. So of course me and my roommates went all out. I was wearing a bright turquoise shirt with an exaggered cut out for my neck, with a racerback top underneath. On the bottom I had grey leggins with orange runner’s shorts over them and of course bright pink pumas and knee high striped socks to match. Oh and let’s not forget about the sparkley gold headband and red scrunchie. When I get pictures I’ll upload them so you can have a good laugh.
The second hip hop dance was to two songs: “Get It Shawty” by Lloyd and “Now Drop” by Timbaland. The first performance of it went well, but on the second night we had a bit of an accident. One of the male dancers was jumping over another when he landed awkwardly on his bad knee (I hope he’s doing better now). I didn’t even realize he wasn’t there till a point where I dance with him. So I turned to my roommate (while on stage…not a good idea) and asked, “where is he?” Instead of answer I got “the look,” so I just kept going and found out later.
The modern dance was one my roommate choreographed to Les Miserables’ song “Do You Hear the People Sing?” Apparently from what I heard this was the one dance in the show that was unlike any other and really stood out. I even heard we brought people to the edge of their seats and had a few on the verge of tears because it was just like the actual performance in the musical.
Hopefully I’ll get the pictures up soon. Right now they’re on my mom’s camera and she’s a little technology challenged, so you won’t see them until I upload them. Until then, imagine as best you can.

Formal Attire 101
Being my own fashion icon and all, I think it’s only appropriate to give advice to any other young women out there. For senior week I have a formal coming up, and of course I bought my dress months ago to hopefully ensure no one else will have it. But I did make a mistake and purchase it at Cache. I would have loved to have bought it at a boutique or some other store in South Carolina (which is where I was when I bought it), but it didn’t work out like that. So if anyone else is wearing this dress:
please go return it and look for another. My worst nightmare is to wear the same thing at someone else. (Side note: this happened to me once this year, when I walked into class, luckily I could conceal the mishap by wearing a sweatshirt.)
Now that that’s squared away let me pass this advice onto you: short dresses are the new formal dresses. Wearing a long dress reminds me of prom (an event I’d rather forget) and it makes me look even short than I am (5′1″). Short dresses offer versatility for dancing, plus you get to show of the legs you work so hard in the gym. And for strapless dresses I recommend buying one size smaller than normal to ensure everything stays in place. The other problems associated with buying a size smaller can be fixed with spanx.
